Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said fulfilling the aspirations of citizens remains the core commitment of his government, emphasising that sectors such as education, skill development, health, tourism, sports and culture will play a crucial role in achieving this goal. He also called for accelerating efforts to connect India’s education system with the real-world economy while increasing focus on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and automation, reported news agency PTI.

The prime minister made the remarks while addressing a post-Budget webinar attended by representatives from various government ministries and departments, along with experts from the private sector. The discussion focused on strategies to translate policy announcements into effective on-ground implementation.

Linking education with the real-world economy

PM Modi stressed that India must strengthen the connection between academic learning and economic opportunities to prepare the country’s youth for the future workforce. He noted that the education system should align more closely with industry needs and emerging global trends, reported PTI.

“We will need to accelerate the process of connecting our education system to the real-world economy even further,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of enhancing focus on rapidly evolving fields such as artificial intelligence, automation, the digital economy and design-driven manufacturing. According to the prime minister, these areas will play a decisive role in shaping India’s economic growth and global competitiveness in the coming years.

Promoting STEM and encouraging women in technology

The prime minister also underlined the importance of strengthening STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics — education in India. He expressed satisfaction that an increasing number of young women are showing interest in these fields.

PM Modi said that as the country advances in futuristic technologies, it is essential to ensure that girls have equal access to opportunities. He called for building a strong research ecosystem where young innovators and researchers can explore new ideas and develop cutting-edge technologies, reported PTI.

“It is important that no daughter of the country is held back due to lack of opportunities,” he said, stressing the need to support young researchers with better facilities and institutional backing.

Strengthening healthcare and expanding services

The prime minister also spoke about progress in India’s healthcare sector, highlighting the expansion of medical infrastructure and public health schemes. He noted that initiatives such as the Ayushman Bharat Yojana have significantly improved access to healthcare services, particularly in rural areas, reported PTI.

He said wellness centres and Arogya Mandirs have played an important role in extending health services to villages, while new medical colleges have been established across hundreds of districts to strengthen the country’s healthcare capacity.

PM Modi added that India is moving towards a vision of preventive and holistic healthcare, which focuses not only on treatment but also on overall well-being.

Growing demand in the care economy

The prime minister also highlighted the growing importance of the “care economy,” which includes trained caregivers who support elderly citizens and people requiring assistance. As India’s senior citizen population continues to rise, he said the demand for trained caregivers will increase substantially in the coming years, reported PTI.

PM Modi urged stakeholders to develop new training models to prepare skilled caregivers who can meet the needs of an ageing population.

Sports key to youth empowerment and national development

Highlighting the role of sports in nation-building, PM Modi said India’s youth power can become true national power only when young people are healthy, disciplined and confident.

He said sports have increasingly been recognised as an important component of national development. Initiatives like the Khelo India have injected new energy into the country’s sporting ecosystem, while sports infrastructure is being strengthened across various regions, reported PTI.

According to the prime minister, promoting sports and physical fitness will not only nurture athletic talent but also contribute to building a stronger, healthier and more confident generation of young Indians.
