For the first time ever and after 9 years of follow-ups, Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection reached homes in Vasai taluka on Tuesday.

The connection was installed in Evershine Nagar of Vasai, which was inaugurated by former Mayor of Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVMC), Pravina Thakur.

Bahujan Vikas Aghadi's (BVA) former member of parliament from Palghar, Baliram Jadhav, had, since 2012, written to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) regarding the provision of a network of compressed natural gas (CNG) and PNG in Vasai, Virar, Palghar and other areas of the district.

A network of PNG pipelines is being laid and soon the entire district will have access to natural gas. These connections are much cheaper than Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG).

BVA MLA Kshitij Thakur said the timing couldn't have been better considering the skyrocketing prices of LPG and petrol. "With everything becoming expensive among the already-crushing financial crisis due to the coronavirus, PNG in people's kitchens is a big relief. Within no time now, we will see to it that the entire taluka has access to PNG pipelines. I thank Jadhav for constantly following up with the issue," said the Nallasopara MLA.

BVA president and Vasai MLA Hitendra Thakur said thousands of emails and letters were written to ministries and regulatory board. "Since 2012, we were after the authorities to get a nod on PNG pipelines. We had promised the people of our taluka and we are happy that we did not let go of the issue and ultimately delivered as pledged," he said.
