A doctor at the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Hospital in Wanowrie in Pune was arrested on Thursday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting Rs 350 bribe from a policeman for issuing medical certificate for sick leave.
The doctor has been identified as Dr Namdev Laxman Patil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACB) Jagannath Kalashkar said, ''The policeman is the complainant in this case. The policeman was on medical leave due to ill health and since he wanted to extend his leave he had sought a medical certificate. However, Dr Patil allegedly demanded the bribe to issue the medical certificate."
Superintendent of ACB Shirish Sardeshpande said, "The policeman lodged a complaint with Pune-unit of the ACB which verified the complaint. Accordingly, our team caught the doctor red-handed while accepting the bribe money."
ACB has appealed to citizens to contact them if a public servant or agent demands bribe for doing any government work. The ACB office is located in the Central Building opposite Sassoon Hospital near Pune railway station. If any public servant demands bribe, people can call 020-26122134, 020-26132802 or the toll-free number 1064.
