One person was killed in an encounter between three men and the police in Mangalore's Gurupura area at 4am this morning.
According to the police, three men in a Maruti Omni van opened fire when they were stopped at a checkpost. The two others managed to escape leaving the van behind.
Two loaded pistols were recovered from the spot. There's speculation that the trio belonged to the underworld as Gurupura is notorious for smuggling.
Police are yet to identify the men.
