President Droupadi Murmu on a two-day Odisha visit, to attend convocations and honour achievers

President Droupadi Murmu begins a two-day visit to Odisha, attending convocations at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Ravenshaw University, where she will confer honorary degrees. She will also lay a foundation stone at Ravenshaw Girls' High School and present the Kalinga Ratna Award 2024. Over 70 platoons of police have been deployed for security.

President Droupadi Murmu is all set to commence her two-day visit to Odisha on Monday. President Murmu, during her two-day visit to Odisha, includes her attendance at the convocation ceremonies of AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, as per the officials.

After her arrival, President Murmu will attend the fifth convocation ceremony of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar on Monday evening, news agency PTI reported. 


On the second day of her arrival in Odisha, Murmu, on Tuesday, will visit Cuttack, where she will be attending the 13th annual convocation of Ravenshaw University and giving away honorary degrees to noted personalities in recognition of their contributions to different fields.



President Droupadi Murmu will also lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings of Ravenshaw Girls' High School, an official statement said.

Indian President Murmu will also be gracing the birth anniversary celebration of Adikabi Sarala Das and presenting the Kalinga Ratna Award-2024 at Cuttack, the official statement added.

Along with President Droupadi Murmu, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will attend both programs of the president in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The security arrangements in Odisha for the arrival of President Droupadi Murmu have been beefed up. The Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, has made foolproof security arrangements for the President's visit.

As per PTI’s report, there are at least 70 platoons (one platoon comprises 30 personnel) of the police force, along with 300 officers, which have been deployed for the president's visit.

Ravenshaw University Vice-Chancellor Professor Sanjay K. Nayak said that renowned nuclear physicist and former director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty, who is currently working as secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy and chairperson of the Atomic Energy Commission, will be honoured with an Honoris Causa (D. Sc.) for his distinguished contributions to societal objectives related to atomic energy, including healthcare, food security, and water security, as per news agency PTI. 

Member of Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahatab will also be conferred with Honoris Causa (D. Litt) on the occasion.

Moreover, Padmashree Sabarmatee, a renowned conservationist and farmer who has worked extensively on indigenous seed preservation and organic farming, will get an Honoris Causa (D. Litt) in recognition of her work.

It has also been informed that visually challenged social activist and founder of Odisha's first Braille press, Bijay Kumar Rath, will also be honoured with an Honoris Causa (D. Litt.) during President Murmu’s visit to Odisha.
