have been fighting pitched battles with the Delhi Technological University and the Delhi government over converting the Delhi College of Engineering into a deemed university.

Ravi Shekhar, Shashank Lodhi, Pankaj Mishra, Nitin Baraiya and Mirza Faraz Alam appeared in their final year exams held on Monday. These are the same students who have been leading the protest so far, telling their mates that they should boycott the exams to protest the alleged draconian move by the authorities.

However, even the alleged "back-stabbing" did not deter the students from junior classes to continue with their struggle. According to the university, the re-scheduled mid-semester witnessed attendance of 602 final year (VIIIth semester) students. However, only 21 students from Ist and IIIrd year and 14 students from IInd year appeared for the exams.

The Delhi Technological University (erstwhile Delhi College of Engineering) had re-scheduled its mid-semester to March 29 from March 15 after students went up in arms and announced a complete boycott of the examination.
"It is strange that the final year students who had asked their juniors to continue with their boycott of the examination, themselves wrote the tests. They have bagged 520 (approx.) job offers in leading organisations through DTU while blatantly pushing their juniors on the path of agitation," said a university official.

It is also ironical that the final year students initially raked up the issue of campus placements to justify their demands for conversion of DTU to DCE, as they had received around 500 offers from 90 reputed companies before they went ahead with their agitation on March 4.

The DTU has issued an appeal to the parents to encourage their wards to appear in the remaining mid-semester exams, which will continue till April 3, so that they do not suffer an "irreparable" loss. "It is hoped that the advice will be taken with all seriousness by the students and their parents," the DTU authorities said. The protest at DTU began on March 4 following which two students, Ravi Shekhar and Nitin Baraiya were expelled.
