The Pune Police on Saturday raided illegal arms manufacturing units in Umarti village in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh, leading to the detention of 47 people and seizure of illegal weapons and materials, a senior officer said, reported news agency PTI.
He said four factories were demolished, and two pistols, five magazines, and various materials used for manufacturing arms were seized.
The raid was conducted by a 105-member team comprising personnel from the crime branch and officials of wireless, drone, surveillance, and cyber sections, reported PTI.
"A team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Somay Munde conducted a major action in Umarti village in Madhya Pradesh, around 500 km from Pune. As many as 47 people have been detained, while four factories were demolished. We seized two pistols, four empty cartridges, two live rounds, five magazines and over 100 raw barrels and 14 grinding machines," a senior police officer said, reported PTI.
Firing on Mumbai real estate agent: Four held from Pune forest
In another case, the crime branch of Mumbai Police on Friday arrested four individuals from Pune in connection with firing on a real estate agent in Charkop area that left him seriously injured, officials said, reported PTI.
Freddy D'Lima was shot at outside a school by three individuals on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, despite injuries, drove himself to a nearby hospital in Kandivli in his car, police said, reported PTI.
The four men arrested from Pune are identified as Rajesh Ramesh Chauhan alias Daya (42), Subhash Bhikaji Mohite (44), Mangesh Eknath Chaudhary (40), and Krishna alias Roshan Basantkumar Singh (25). Three of them are residents of Mumbai and the metropolitan region, while Chaudhary is originally from Bhor in Pune district, reported PTI.
Deputy Commissioner of Police of Crime Branch, Vishal Thakur, said the four individuals were nabbed from a forest in Bhor after a chase of a few kilometres.
"Prima facie, Mohite opened fire at D'Lima. Their interrogation will reveal the exact motive", he added, reported PTI.
Meanwhile, the injured victim is recovering, and his condition is stated to be stable and out of danger.
