Rail Bhavan dharna: Police asked to give documents to Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi Delhi Police was today directed by a court here to supply all the documents filed along with the charge sheet to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five others who are accused in a case of agitation by AAP near North Block here in January this yearMetropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain asked the investigating officer of the case to give the complete set of documents annexed with the charge sheet to the six accused and fixed the matter for further proceedings on February 7 2015The courts order came after advocate Neha Rastogi who appeared for Kejriwal and other accused told the magistrate that they have not received all the documents yetArvind KejriwalDuring the hearing Aam Aadmi Party AAP leader Sanjay Singh who has been named as accused in the charge sheetappeared in the court in pursuance to the summons issued against him Kejriwal and AAP leaders Manish Sisodia Rakhi Birla Somnath Bharti and Ashutosh who were earlier granted bail also appeared in the courtThe six accused were chargesheeted by the Delhi Police for allegedly violating prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC and also obstructing public servants in discharge of their official duty The police had chargesheeted them under various sections of the IPC including 145 joining and continuing in an unlawful assembly 147 rioting 186 obstructing public servant in discharge of his public function 353 assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his dutyKejriwal and other leaders had staged dharna outside Rail Bhavan demanding action against police officials who hadrefused to carry out a raid on an alleged drug and prostitution racket in South Delhi in January this year In its charge sheet the police had claimed that on January 19 the Assistant Commissioner of Police had imposed prohibitory orders in North Block South Block Vijay Chowk areas near Rail Bhawan and Parliament StreetOn January 20 the then CM Kejriwal and other AAP leaders assembled at the Rail Bhawan chowk defying the prohibitoryorders it had saidThe police had alleged that on being told about the prohibitory orders Kejriwal had told the cops that he would go to the then Home Ministers office at North Block in his car and also laid a condition that media persons and his supporters would accompany himThe charge sheet had further claimed that Kejriwal Sisodia and other AAP leaders along with 250300 supporters defied the orders and started moving towards the then Home Ministers office When the police officials present there tried to stopthem with barricades these leaders instigated their supporters and they manhandled policemen it had alleged According to the police Kejriwal and his supporters then sat on a dharna at Rail Bhawan chowk defying the prohibitory ordersThe charge sheet had said when Kejriwal and his supporters were stopped at the barricades at Rail Bhawan chowk they raised slogans against the police the central government and the Home Ministry and tried to move forward by manhandling the police officials present there When the protesters were stopped Kejriwal got annoyed and declared that he would stage dharna for the next 10 days at Rail Bhawan chowk it had saidHe sat there and gave instigating speeches according to it Kejriwal had demanded immediate suspension of the corrupt officials who refused to act in the interest of the public whose cause Somnath Bharti had taken up it had said Bharti had created a controversy in January when he went to a locality in his constituency of Malviya Nagar claiming a drug and prostitution ring was being run from a residence and demanded that the police raid the placeHowever the police had refused to conduct raid saying they had no warrant to do so The AAP workers had allegedly forced a couple of women from Uganda to give urine samples Their action came under attack but the then AAP government had insisted that action should be taken against the police officials
