Although monsoon will reach Pune on June 9, a short spell of pre-monsoon shower will provide Punekars much-needed relief from the blazing heat
Due to unfavourable conditions in the Arabian Sea, the arrival of monsoon in the city is likely to be delayed. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), monsoon will hit Pune around June 9-10. However, there’s good news for Puneites. The populace will get reprieve from scorching heat, as the IMD has predicted a short spell of pre-monsoon showers in the next 48 hours.
An IMD official said that although the southwest monsoon has advanced over Maldives and southwest Bay of Bengal, it is yet to reach the state because of the low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea, which has intensified and is sucking up the moisture. After reaching Kerala, monsoon will cover Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa and parts of southern Maharashtra before hitting the city on June 9.
