It's a classic example of the pot calling the kettle black. A man arrested for raping an eight-year-old has slapped charges against her father for beating him up after the incident came to light.

According to the police when the girl narrated the incident to her father, he and some locals beat up Ranpise for committing such heinous act on a small child.

Suraj Bhagwan alias Savta Ranpise, resident of Yamuna Nagar, and furniture shop owner was arrested on rape charges by the Nigdi Police last Monday night.

The accused lured the eight-year-old girl into his shop with chocolates.

MiD DAY had reported the story on Monday night and followed it up with a report on how locals had beaten up an eyewitness who chose to keep mum against Ranpise, a former BJP functionary.

Senior Police Inspector of Nigadi Police station said: "According to complainant, the girl's father allegedly beat Suraj after he learnt about the rape. Suraj's leg was fractured in the beating."

PI Ugale said Ranpise lodged an FIR against the girl's father for beating him. PI Ugale said, "We will not take any action till we verify Ranpise's claims."
