It looks like the civic authorities are least bothered about saving the natural lake behind the Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri West, which is considered a hot spot by birders. Currently, the beautiful lake is being used to dump nirmalya and other garbage.

Environmentalists and locals fear that if the authorities fail to take adequate measures to preserve the water body, it would soon become a dumping ground.
When this correspondent visited the lake on Saturday, he discovered that garbage and nirmalya had accumulated along the edges of the lake.
Hemant Haria, a resident of Sardar Vallabhai Patel Nagar, who frequents the lake said, &ldquo;Over four to five years ago, the lake had zero pollution. It is a preferred destination among the birders. But people have started dumping garbage into the lake. If this continues, the lake will be lost forever.&rdquo;
In the past, attempts were made by locals to prevent litterbugs from dirtying the lake. But their efforts failed to yield desired results. Locals and nature lovers feel that the local civic ward office should deploy guards near the lake and take stringent action against those dirtying the lake.
Ramesh Choudhary, a resident said, &ldquo;The BMC needs to deploy a couple of security guards and civic officials around the lake, so that they can initiate action against those dirtying the lake.&rdquo;
