If you are in Kolkata, two words are very common, Didi and Dada. And interestingly, both are fairly powerful in this eastern Indian metropolis. The one rules the state, the other rules its cricket, and a tinge of its entertainment industry by participating in almost any and every show. Now, taking the cue from Kolkata’s powerful Mamata Banerjee, Didi to all, and Saurav Ganguly, Dada to all, a liquor manufacturer has launched a country-made product, a low priced white coloured drink, called Dada. It comes in pearl pet bottles and has become extremely popular with the rich and the commoners in the city. Encouraged by the stupendous sales, the brand is now being exported to other states from this year. Simple Dadagiri, boss.

What a doggy business
This can only happen in Kolkata. Troubled by growing number of street dogs, the Trinamool Congress has advised residents of Kolkata to keep bottles of half open kerosene outside their homes, the smell — the party guaranteed — would positively drive the dogs away. Many, mostly TMC supporters, have started following Didi’s diktat like the final word. But then emerged another problem. The cops were told roadside vendors were routinely pinching away the kerosene bottles. Enraged TMC workers have now pasted posters in many neighbourhoods, encouraging residents to use metallic chains to lock up the kerosene bottles. It’s quite a sight.
