Chandrama chowk near the college is always inundated during monsoon and is filled with potholes. The boundaries of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) meet at this area. In addition, one of the roads is constructed by Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) division of the PMC.u00a0 MiD DAY team along with Executive Engineer Pravin Gedam, Junior Engineer Amar Madikund and Vijay Dabhade of JNNURM department visited various spots on the road. PMC has now assured that repair work will be carried out within 72 hours. SURVEY RESULTS AND PROPOSED SOLUTIONS Bombay Sappers Corner Problem: The Bombay Sappers Corner of Chandrama chowk is filled with potholes, big and small. Many accidents occur here. Assistant Police Inspector (Traffic) Ravidatta Sawant said: "Last morning, a couple met with an accident when their bike slipped, when they tried to jump over a big pothole here. We have to warn vehicles about potholes at night," he added. PMC's promise: PMC officials said that this area came under the jurisdiction of Khadki Cantonment Board. However, Junior Engineer Amar Madikund agreed to make the square pothole-free. The area will be patched up to mitigate the existing problem, Madikund said. Alandiu00a0Roadu00a0 Problem: The road from Alandi towards Chandrama Chowk, which is largely used by pilgrims and VIP guests, is another headache for the commuters. There's a man-hole that's almost in the middle of road. It's metal lid has been displaced. This hampers heavy vehicles plying on the road. Besides, a pothole near the man-hole has aggravated the problem. PMC's promise: The lid of man-hole will be repaired. Either the existing metal cover will be replaced or a new cement one will be constructed at this spot. This work will be completed in 24 hours, said Junior Engineer Vijay Dabhade of JNNURM division.u00a0 Deccan college gateu00a0u00a0 Problem: Water-logging has been a most serious problem for pedestrians in front of the Deccan College gate. Commuters have to wade through puddles of water to reach the PMPML bus stop located here. "When it rains heavily the adjoining footpath going under water," said Savani Shinde a college student. PMC's promise: A part of Deccan College road was constructed by JNNURM division and this spot is a low-lying area. PMC engineers Dabhade and Madikund said, "We will uplift the road level and also construct the footpath again. We will make arrangements so that accumulated water can reach the storm water drain. Also, the drains will be cleaned to ensureu00a0 smooth flow of water." Fill-up potholes: Cop Potholes on the busy Chandrama Chowk prevent commuters to cross the area smoothly. PMC should take up the work on war footing and prevent any possible eventualities in the future.
