Rosalyn D'Mello: Feasting on freedom in Berlin

The highlight of being in Berlin was wandering late into the night, tasting the culture and food, with no one to stop and question us

The highpoint of my week-long Berlin sojourn was on day four, a Sunday. I'd walked so much, by the time I finally went to sleep (the next morning, at 2.30 am) I'd accumulated 25,000 steps, enough for my Fitbit to give me a virtual badge. Barely four days had passed since then, but they'd been so full of unaccounted-for wanderings, I had to struggle to retrace the many intuitive paths I'd taken as I traversed the city using the U and S Bahns and could not summarise my itinerary without great effort. On Sunday, I know I woke up to cloudy skies. By the time I got dressed and left my friend's house, with her in tow, it was raining.
