Onlooker's quick thinking saves man's life; suffers no injuries after falling over bridge
Gangaram Bondhu Kamle owes his life to the quick thinking of an onlooker. Last night after watching the festivities of dahi handi, the 34-year-old man was returning home in an inebriated state at 12 am when suddenly he was pushed from behind and he fell over Corporation Bridge, near PMC office.u00a0
u00a0An onlooker by the name of Manish Bajaj passing by the bridge, heard cries for help and immediately called the fire brigade. "I was travelling home on my bike and riding slowly because of the dahi handi crowd when I heard someone calling out for help. I stopped my bike and called the fire brigade authorities," he said.
The fire brigade vehicles were also posted some ten minutes away from the bridge and the moment they received the news, they rushed to the spot.
Around four officials threw a long rope to Kamle and after several attempts he caught it.
Anil Karade, a fire official said, "It took us almost 10 minutes to get the man out. As the area was completely dark we had to calculate our moves carefully. The water was also deep but luckily the man survived."
Kamle, working as a labourer and resident of Nangal Gaon, was shaken up after the incident.
