Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Nitin Deshmukh and several party workers were detained on Friday while marching towards the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Washim district to protest against what they described as inadequate drought relief for farmers, reported the PTI.
Deshmukh, who represents the Balapur Assembly constituency in Akola district, and other party members have demanded compensation of Rs 1 lakh per hectare for drought-hit farmers, immediate settlement of pending crop insurance claims and remunerative prices for agricultural produce.
