After the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) spent Rs 1.95 crore and laboured for three years, the skywalk connecting Rabale railway station to the MIDC area was finally inaugurated on Monday. However, soon after it was thrown open to public, Thane&rsquo;s MP Sanjeev Naik raised concerns over problems of ventilation in the elevator set up for physically challenged commuters. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jun/DSC00272.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 367px;" /> Interiors of the swanky new skywalk, which was inaugurated on June 24 The 37-metre long skywalk has two lifts and has been pegged to help commuters in the satellite city. The skywalk, which has been built using polycarbonate sheet for the roof, has ramps as well as railings. Talking about ill-planned ventilation system, Naik asked the NMMC officials to take notice of it and lower the temperature of air-conditioning in the lift. Pic/Shrikant Khuperkar The NMMC now plans to install exhaust fans in the lifts so that the temperature can be lowered and commuters would not feel stuffy. Delay in permissions A high profile NMMC official who did not wish to be named said that a lot of time was spent in attaining the necessary permissions to build the structure. One of the tedious tasks that the team encountered was to remove a high-tension electricity wire that passed through the stretch. He also added that a lot of crucial projects get stuck due to permission delays. Even though the authority finished construction a month ago, it was inaugurated only on June 24. &ldquo;The skywalk was ready more than a month ago but then the inauguration got delayed due to some reasons best known to the corporation,&rdquo; added the officer.
