When Juhu resident Uthara Gopalan, an animal lover, opened the door to her house on Christmas Eve, she was shocked to find a dog attacked with acid lying at the doorstep. She rushed it to the Bombay Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) around midnight. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/dec/Injured-dog.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 375px;" /> The injured dog is being treated at the BSPCA Hospital &ldquo;When Gopalan brought the dog to the hospital, it could not even stand on its own and was in terrible pain,&rdquo; said Dr Mayur Dangal, manager, BSPCA. Doctors believe that the canine is around 10 years old. &ldquo;The dog will take a minimum of 20 days to recover as the burns will take time to be heal,&rdquo; said Lieutenant Colonel (Dr) J C Khanna, secretary, BSPCA. He added, &ldquo;Cases of cruelty towards dogs that are brought to the hospital often come from the western suburbs. It is sad that people nowadays vent their frustrations and tensions on animals by doing such things. The dog is in a better condition and is able to walk now. However, it will take time for him to recover.&rdquo; &ldquo;A 10-year-old dog is as old as a 70-year-old human being. Treatment of such old dogs becomes a little difficult,&rdquo; said Khanna. Cases of cruelty to animals appear to be on a rise in the city.
