Theft suspect lacerates himself at police chowky

A suspected vehicle thief attempted suicide by inflicting injuries on himself with a razor at the Narpatgir police chowky in Mangalwar Peth, while he was being questioned on Wednesday.

A suspected vehicle thief attempted suicide by inflicting injuries on himself with a razor at the Narpatgir police chowky in Mangalwar Peth, while he was being questioned on Wednesday.

The suspect, who was detained for his alleged involvement in a two-wheeler theft at Barne road, is identified as Sajid Qadir Fakir (19), a resident of Kurla in Mumbai.

Suicide attempt case
The police have filed a case of attempted suicide against Sajid under section 309 of the Indian Penal Code.

"Sajid was working in a garage at Barne road owned by one Shafaqat Shaikh (43). Sajid was caught by Shafaqat's cousin Haider Shaikh, while attempting to steal a two-wheeler from the garage," said Police constable U B Vairagkar. "Sajid was brought to the chowky at around 11.30 am for questioning. Seeing that the police personnel was busy with some work, Sajid took a razor and inflicted injuries on his chest and head."

Vairagkar said, "Prior to attempting suicide, Sajid was questioned on several things. Sajid then revealed that he has a criminal record and was recently released from the jail."
