Firemen spare no effort to rescue family whose house collapsed in Monday's torrential rain

Everytime there is a fire in the neighbourhood or someone is trapped in a building collapse, the first to reach the place for rescue operations are the firemen.

Tanaji Ambedkar, Ratan Raut, Sampark Jadhav and Chandrakant Chauhan, firemen from Yerawada Fire Station, are among the workers who have saved countless lives, be it from a burning car or from under a fallen roof.

These workers saved a family whose house collapsed in heavy rainfall in the city on Monday at 10.30 pm.

"When we reached Kasba Peth where the accident happened, we saw that the wall of the house had caved in.

A man who was in his early twenties and his mother were trapped inside the house. We first rescued them and made sure that they were not hurt. We always work like this. Taking care of the people who are trapped and rescuing them is our main aim," said Ambedkar.

These firemen take care of matters that cannot be handled by ordinary men.

"We are often called for rescue operations which cannot be handled by a layman. We have saved lives of people who have drowned in the river. We are also called in case of an accident especially if the victim is trapped or the car has caught fire," said both Raut and Chauhan.

The entire operation is carried out very delicately so as to avoid further damage to life and property.

"Firstly, we don't want something like this to happen. But when we get a call we try and handle the matter very carefully. If a house has caught fire, we ensure that we first rescue the people inside it and then take care of the vicinity in order to avoid further damage," said Sampark Jadhav, driver.

These men put their lives on stake to save the lives of many.
