DMRC's Yamuna Bank-Noida link may open in time for India International Trade Fair Visitors from Noida to this year's India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan will be able to save at least half-an-hour travel time, long queues for fair tickets and the absolute painful search for an autorickshaw to return home.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to open a portion of the Delhi-Noida Metro Link before the event starts from November 14. Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said the trial runs on Yamuna Bank-Noida line till Noida Sector 16 are expected to start next week. "A huge rush is expected during the India International Trade Fair and keeping this in view, the Delhi Metro is trying to open the Yamuna Bank-Noida line around the time of the fair," said Dayal.u00a0 This line was re-scheduled for opening in the first week of December 2009 because cracks were spotted in the pillars at different locations. Moreover, the DMRC was reeling under shortage of rolling stock. However, the final opening date of this line will depend upon the successful completion of trials and clearance by the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety, Dayal pointed out. For the operation on the entire line between Delhi and Noida people might have to wait till December. "Trial runs on the rest of the line till Sector 32 are expected in the first week of November," the Metro spokesperson said. Past baggage &gt;&gt;September 8:u00a0 Services on the Indraprastha-Yamuna Bank section of Delhi Metro's line III were affected for nearly six-and-half hours as a section of signalling cable was stolen from the tracks between these stations the previous day. &gt;&gt;September 13: A Delhi Metro train with 13 people on board derailed on September 13 near the Yamuna Bridge in east Delhi. Two wheels of the train's front coach jumped tracks at around 6 am, after it started from the Yamuna Bank station.u00a0 Since it was the first train starting from Yamuna Bank station there were only 13 passengers and no one was injured. &gt;&gt;Environmentalists and activists have time and again raised concerns about "irreparable damage to the ecology" as a result of the construction work on the river banks. The 37-hectare Yamuna Bank station and extension is located very close to the river.
