An 11-year-old girl chased by monkeys died after she fell from the staircase of her house while trying to escape a troop of monkeys in Uttarakhand's Nainital. The incident happened when the victim was playing on the steps leading to the terrace of their home.

The monkeys rushing down the roof came into contact with the girl, who lost her balance and fell down where she sustained severe head injury. Her family took her to B.D Pandey Government Hospital, where she died in the evening due to excessive bleeding and internal injuries. Her body has been sent for an autopsy.
Diwan Rana, father of the deceased, who works as a daily wager in Jal Sansthan in Nainital, told The <a title="11-year-old chased by monkeys dies after falling from stairs" href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/dehradun/11-yr-old-chased-by-monkeys-dies-after-falling-from-stairs/articleshow/61677543.cms" target="_blank">Times of India</a>, "My daughter is no more. What would I want now? Who is responsible for my child's death? I want justice for her."

In November 2017, a large male monkey has been causing havoc in Lower Parel, stealing fruit and raiding shops and even biting passers-by on the road as well as at the station. After attempts to catch the animal have failed, Sanjay Gandhi National Park authorities are planning to tranquilise it and move it to the park. Locals said the monkey appeared in the area around 10 days ago and immediately started raiding shops and stealing fruit. Due to its aggressive nature, the locals are scared and, along with railway officials, have informed the Thane Forest Department (Territorial) to take it away.
