Karanjia had booked four tickets for 19 November 2010 (Trivandrum - Mumbai). The flight fare reflected per ticket at the time of booking was Rs 5,042. Hence the cost for four tickets should have amounted to Rs 20,168. However, once the tickets were booked he saw that his Amex card had been charged a total of Rs 27,654. He was shocked to see the Rs 7,500 extra levy.

While the travel portal clarified that customer may have missed the alert message which comes as a pop-up.
"Here a customer had a concern on fare being charged high for one of the passenger. As a process, we have access logs for the booking processed on the website. We do have a fare change alert message on our website in case there is a change in fare (due to seat availability) for a particular booking.

This helps the customer to make a fair decision before the final payment is made. As per the logs the fare change message was shown to the customer and he agreed to go ahead with the booking," mentioned the statement issued by makemytrip.com.
