The Uttar Pradesh police have booked a man, who claimed to be a retired army officer, and his aide in connection with alleged rape of a woman here on the false promise of marriage, police said Saturday.

Superintendent of Police (City) Ravindra Singh said a 30-year-old woman, who sings at music events, claimed she first met Mohar Singh, a resident of Saharanpur district, at one such programme where he introduced himself as a retired Colonel.

The SP (city) said that four years ago, when the woman lived in a rented house near the city station, the man, who is in mid-fifties came to her house and raped her by promising marriage.

The woman alleged that later Singh took Rs 20 lakh from her to buy a plot and build a house on it. He started living with her there but did not marry, the SP said.

The woman also alleged Singh has been trying to get rid of her for the past one year by threatening her of initiating legal action.

On March 27, he called her to Haridwar (Uttarakhand) saying they will marry there. Next day, the girl tied to contact the man after reaching Roorkee, but she did not get any reply.

When the woman returned to her home around 8.00 pm, Mohar Singh and his aide Hammed were already there and they beat her up and allegedly tried to rape her, the police officer said.

The SP (city) said a case was registered on Friday against the two, and efforts are on to arrest them.
