Four others injured; victims were labourers

Two people died and four others suffered severe injuries when the roof of a newly constructed farmhouse came crashing down due to rain at Ghevra Mor in Nangloi area of west Delhi late on Monday night. A police officer said that the farmhouse had been built in an area of 2000 sq ft and the labourers were pressed into service to construct a new building where the incident occurred.

"The building had been constructed but the roof was yet to be prepared. The labourers were working when a large portion of the structure came crashing down. Six labourers were trapped underneath. Fire brigade and police personnel were called in. All six people were pulled out and taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where two of them were declared brought dead by doctors," said a senior police officer.

The officer said that the deceased were identified as Aurangjeb (26) and Satender (32). The injured persons identified as Narender, Mukesh, Sachin and Santosh were undergoing treatment at hospital.

"We will lodge an FIR against the owner of the farmhouse. For the past few days the area has been witnessing heavy rains which led to this collapse," said the police officer. The officer said the police were yet to ascertain the name of the farmhouse owner.

"We will lodge an FIR against him after taking the statements of the victims who have been hospitalised," the officer added.
