Two late-night road mishaps kill 3 youths, injure 4 more

The city saw two fatal accidents in the early hours of Tuesday which claimed three lives With all the bodies being sent to the BMCrun Sion Hospital the doctors of the forensic department had a busy day conducting postmortems While one accident involving a speeding car occurred at BandraKurla Complex BKC another took place near Siddhivinayak Temple in Dadar The wreckage of the Toyota Corolla which rammed into a signal post at Platina junction in BandraKurla Complex in the early hours of Tuesday killing 18yearold Mohammed Saiyyad PicSameer Markande BKC mishap Mohammed Ali Mohammed Umar Saiyyad 18 succumbed to a fatal accident while he was out on a joyride with four of his friends in a Toyota Corolla According to sources the four had told their parents that they were going to visit the Mahim dargah It is believed that these youngsters were speeding when the driver lost control and rammed into a signal post at Platina junction in BKC ldquoThe impact of the accident on the victimrsquos chest and abdomen caused his death His spleen and liver were torn into bits which led to massive internal bleedingrdquo said Dr Rajesh Dere head of forensic medicine at Sion Hospital Autopsy reports said cause of death was shock due to polytrauma The other four persons were admitted to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra Irshaad Yunus Ansari 21 and Rahim Iqbal Khan 29 have sustained injuries to face and stomach While Qureshi Abdul Hamid 18 is grievously injured on the head and has bruises on face and stomach Mohsin Pathan 21 has sustained trauma on chest head and stomach said a casualty medical officer at the BMCrun facility While Pathan is recuperating at the hospital the others took discharge against medical advice DAMA Qureshi has been shifted to the ICU of privaterun Fauziya Hospital in Kurla A resident of Kurla he is pursuing a diploma in mechanical engineering ldquoI hail from Gujarat and my parents are on their way to see me I am very ill and do not remember what happened during the accidentrdquo claimed Qureshi A relative of the Qureshis claimed that the Toyota Corolla belonged to Qureshirsquos family and that the youngster had taken it for a spin with his friends without his familyrsquos knowledge Two friends from Malad who were on their way to Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi succumbed in a fatal accident near the temple Relatives of the deceased Vinod Kavayya 45 and Pankaj Shah 45 put the greater good before their grief While the deceasedrsquos bodies were being sent for autospy they approached the postmortem centre to donate Kavayyarsquos and Shahrsquos eyes and skin for poor patients at Sion Hospital before performing their last rites ldquoEvery Tuesday around 1230 am Kavayya and Shah would ride the bike to Siddhivinayak to volunteer with temple work Tuesday mornings see a huge crowd at the temple for darshan and the duo used to help security staff in managing queues We never expected that they would meet with such a faterdquo said Kavayyarsquos friend Pravin Rathod Rathod added ldquoWhen the doctors and counsellors from the hospital briefed us about the importance and benefits of organ donations we immediately agreed for the samerdquo ldquoTwo pairs of eyes were retrieved from the deceased The enucleation of the eyes is done to harvest corneas for needy patients Also skin from thighs back and forearms is retrieved and harvested for patients of burn injuriesrdquo said Dr Dere of Sion Hospital The postmortem reports indicated that Kavayya and Shah had succumbed to grievous head injuries chest trauma and multiple fractures They were brought dead to Sion Hospital after the accident
