Srinagar: Security forces have gunned down a second militant during an operation to thwart a major infiltration bid in Machil sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, army said today.

"The troops conducting the search found a militant hiding in the area. Subsequently, in exchange of fire, one more militant was killed thus bringing the total number of casualties to two in the encounter which started yesterday morning" an army spokesman said here.
