The five-member collegium’s meeting assumes significance as it was held after President Ram Nath Kovind formally appointed judge N V Ramana as the next CJI. The meeting was scheduled before the issuance of this notification.

The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) S A Bobde held a meeting on Thursday to discuss possible candidates for appointment of judges in higher judiciary. The CJI would superannuate on April 23.

The five-member collegium’s meeting assumes significance as it was held after President Ram Nath Kovind formally appointed judge N V Ramana as the next CJI. The meeting was scheduled before the issuance of this notification.
