In a major breakthrough, the security forces managed to capture one of the Pakistani terrorists, who attacked a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy coming to Srinagar from Jammu, following an intense gun battle near Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday.

Due to the alertness shown by the Quick Response Team (QRT) of the BSF, lives of other jawans sitting inside the bus were saved. The two militants hurled grenades and fired at the BSF convoy when it reached Samroli near Udhampur.
&lsquo;Bullets brushed past&rsquo; T &lsquo;Maddy&rsquo; Pratap, escort commander of the BSF convoy that was attacked, said, &ldquo;Our convoy was moving, when suddenly there was heavy firing from a small hillock. The volume of the firing was very high, which made us think that there are many terrorists together.
We immediately retaliated with full strength to bring down the militants. During the operation, I even missed two-three bullets by a whisker and two of our BSF jawans died and over a dozen were seriously injured. We were successful in killing one of the terrorists, while the other one ran into a village nearby for hiding.
However, the village defence committee handed over the terrorist, who seems to be a minor. Casualties were limited, as all the drills were followed meticulously. The BSF troopers, who achieved martyrdom, were constable Shubhendu Roy (38) from West Bengal and constable Rocky (23) from Haryana.&rdquo;
The BSF forces or any paramilitary forces in the Valley move in a convoy. Around three to four fully-equipped security vehicles move with the convoy. The convoy that was attacked also had jawans who were coming back from vacation to resume their duties.
With the aim of providing a security cover, a QRT always accompanies the convoy, while it is taking the rounds. Sources told mid day that the BSF vehicle was not bulletproof, whereas the army vehicles are supposed to be bulletproof.
The incident The incident took place at around 07.20 am yesterday, when militants fired at a BSF convoy near Narshu Nalla village in the Udhampur district on national highway (NH-1). Two jawans of BSF died in the operation and 13 others were seriously injured.
The security force killed one militant on the spot and the villagers later handed over another, who fled from the spot, to the BSF. One of the militants was about to throw a hand grenade at a BSF bus. However, due to prompt actions taken by the BSF and the QRT, he was shot dead.
