Umred-based BJP MLA gets 2-year jail term for slapping teacher

Sudhir Parve, a BJP legislator from Umred near Nagpur, was sentenced to two years in jail yesterday for assaulting a teacher in a zilla parishad school. Parve was granted bail and it was not clear whether the conviction would amount to immediate disqualification of the MLA in accordance with the Supreme Court’s July 2013 ruling.
