Had it not been for a Valentine's Day party at Pune, Kandivli-girl Binita Gadani would have been alive today.

Binita, who was in Mumbai for her sister's engagement last week, was due to leave for Pune on Sunday.

However she left on Saturday morning to attend a V-Day party with friends.

"Binita was supposed to leave from Mumbai on Sunday and resume work from Monday. But suddenly her friends called up to celebrate Valentine's Day in Pune. The family, especially her mother, tried a lot to convince her to stay back, but she insisted and left at 6.30 am on Saturday. If she had listened to them, she would have been with us today," said a close family friend.

The 23-year-old was one of the nine people killed in the German Bakery blast at Koregaon Park, Pune on Saturday.

Binita, an electronic and telecommunication engineer, was working with AMDOC, in Pune. She was in the city to attend her elder sister Bijal's engagement ceremony.

According to relatives, the splinters from the bomb killed her. "She was taking a stroll with four of her friends near the German Bakery when the blast took place," said a family source.

Binita's family is in a state of shock and was unable to react to the incident.
