Actor-politician Vijay on Monday met the families of the Karur stampede victims in Mahabalipuram near here, a month after the tragic incident, a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) source said. A total of 37 families were brought in from Karur to the meeting venue — a resort where the party had booked about 50 rooms, the source said.
It was a closed door meeting. The leader was meeting them individually. Vijay assured the families monetary support, besides for education, the source added. As many as 41 people lost their lives and over 60 injured in the stampede that occurred at the TVK meeting addressed by Vijay on September 27.
Frame SOP: HC tells TN
The Madras High Court on Monday directed the Tamil Nadu government to frame Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) within 10 days for conducting public events including roadshows and rallies by political parties in the state.
The first bench comprising Chief Justice M M Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan gave the directive while hearing a batch of petitions, seeking various reliefs. Additional Advocate General J Ravindran informed the Bench that no political party will be allowed to hold rallies/roadshows till the SOP was framed.
