The government on Wednesday appointed Viral Acharya a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, the central bank said in a statement here.

"The Central Government has through notification dated December 28, 2016, appointed Dr. Viral V. Acharya, currently C.V. Starr Professor of Economics, Department of Finance, New York University - Stern School of Business, as Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India for a term of three years from the date of his taking charge," RBI said.
