I am writing this column from sultry Goa where the 30 degrees with a humidity of 74 per cent makes it feel like 37.
That&rsquo;s what my weather app on my cellphone tells me, but I thought it was 45! I am at Goafest, the annual congregation of advertising and media professionals. The event has been plagued by controversies for some months now, but this year saw the event delayed thanks to the Lok Sabha elections.
And even though the Abby Awards were being presented for eight categories, my eyes were firmly on the superlative 58-ball 122 of Virender Sehwag for Kings XI Punjab. It was Vintage Viru as he blasted away to take the innings total to 226. I switched to the Hindi commentary to hear Navjot Singh Sidhu mush and gush.
The innings was perhaps the only bright thing that happened yesterday. I was alerted to this picture by a friend from the US on how it has been doing the rounds of her university. The photograph was that of two girls hanging from a tree, after being gangraped.
I saw some outrage on some of our prime time discussions, but surprisingly, it didn&rsquo;t seem to enrage all our editors as much. But I see the anger and disgust on the social media, and this could grow into a huge movement against the Uttar Pradesh government.
I tuned into CNN-IBN yesterday to see Rajdeep Sardesai present the 9 pm bulletins. While rumours that he is also moving on from IBN are still unconfirmed, now that Network18 founder Raghav Bahl has quit the organisation, it could well be the way he would go.
It&rsquo;s sad to see Bahl leave. Having tracked his career from when I started working in mid-day in the early 1990s, Bahl&rsquo;s story has been remarkable. A show called The India Show on Star Plus, India Business Report on BBC, his association with BusinessIndia TV, ABNi and later CNBC and finally the setting up of his conglomerate.
A few bad decisions did him in, making him knock at the doors of Mukesh Ambani for monies. Am sure he&rsquo;ll be back with something bigger, soon.
