The helpline launched b y the district election department to resolve queries on the ongoing voters&rsquo; registration drive has received an overwhelming response. Nearly 1,200 residents called the helpline since it commenced on October 8. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/oct/voters.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 313px;" /> With the lines flooded with calls, District Deputy Election Officer Apurva Wankhede said, &ldquo;Voters have many queries regarding the submission of various forms, Elector&rsquo;s Photo Identity Card (EPIC), the nearest election centre and other questions related to the registration of their names in voter&rsquo;s list. To clear even the smallest doubt, they had to visit the election offices or nearby election centres in their respective wards. However, with the helpline initiative, voters can get all information by calling the helpline number on 020-20240169.&rdquo; The helpline is operational from Monday to Friday between 10 am and 6 pm, and an employee has been specially appointed to answer calls. &ldquo;For the first time we have introduced this helpline and it&rsquo;s getting an overwhelming response from the people,&rdquo; added Wankhede. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/oct/helpline.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 224px;" /> Representation pic Wankhede also stated that the Election Commission (EC) has announced the extension of summary revision in the ongoing voter&rsquo;s registration drive. She said that previously the summary revision was supposed to conclude on October 17, but the EC has extended by the deadline by eight days to October 25. Every year, the voter&rsquo;s registration drive is held in the month of October. But, considering the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the drive kicked off in September. The final voter&rsquo;s list would be published on January 5. Meanwhile, as many as 49,000 new voters in the district have registered in the rolls, while more than 1,500 repeat and dead voters&rsquo; names have been deleted from the list. u00a0 What is summary revision?
