New Delhi: The CBI on Saturday registered a preliminary inquiry into the deaths of nine people allegedly linked with examinations conducted by Vyapam in Madhya Pradesh over the last few years. The agency will also probe the state police&rsquo;s alleged inaction pertaining to these deaths, official sources said.

The preliminary inquiry was registered to examine whether the deaths were a fallout of the Vyapam scam, they said.
Anand Singh, Ashutosh Tiwari, Gyan Singh, Ananta Ram Tagore, Ravindra Prakash Singh, Prem Lata Pandey, Vikas Pandey, Rajendra Arya and Sanjay Kumar Yadav died under mysterious circumstances as the case was being investigated, but police failed to take any action, the sources added. The agency also raised questions over the MP Special Task Force&rsquo;s (STF&rsquo;s) investigation into the case so far. As per the sources, according to CBI, &ldquo;STF&rsquo;s role in investigation of the scam is highly suspicious. They (STF) have done everything wrong to cover-up the case. Most of the arresting done by STF are of the students who had paid hefty amount to get admissions.&rdquo;
&ldquo;The STF never touched the candidates who are well connected and are relatives of senior official and leaders from the state.&rdquo;
In a related development, it was reported that ever since the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board was formed in 1970, the state government has never conducted an audit of its confidential account, an RTI query has revealed. The confidential account of the board deals with the details of the entire examination process - how the examination is conducted, who will set the question papers, where these will be printed, their transportation costs and which experts will be recruited for the evaluating the OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheets, as also the payments made to the question paper setters, experts and the printing press.
