Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) engineers, who have always been the strength of the civic body, working with various departments for developmental and maintenance work to provide basic facilities to citizens, are in a stew after a new circular by the city engineer department regarding promotions. The department is responsible for promotions and recruitment of engineers in the civic body. As per the circular, 3,000-odd engineers on lower designations at various ward offices, headquarters, and central agencies, now have to prove their worth for promotions by clearing a compulsory internal examination. The circular about the exam was sent last month and they may have to give it in November.
