West Bengal Kolkata: Over 71 per cent vote were cast yesterday in part two of the first phase polling in 31 assembly constituencies spread over three districts in West Bengal amid reports of stray incidents of violence.

Election Commission sources said West Midnapore registered 76 per cent, Bankura over 70 per cent and Burdwan nearly 68 per cent polling. Long queues were seen in front of various polling booths since early morning as people turned out in large numbers to beat the sweltering heat as day temperatures are above 40 degrees Celsius due to a heat wave in the area.
Incidents of violence were also reported from polling booths in Jamuria constituency in Burdwan. Moreover, two bags containing bombs were found near a polling booth in Jamuria by police. Also, a scuffle between TMC and CPI(M) took place at Narayangarh in West Midnapore district
Assam Guwahati: More than 78 per cent votes were cast in the second and final phase of polling in 61 Assembly constituencies yesterday to decide the fate of 525 contestants.

Former PM Manmohan Singh, representing Assam in Rajya Sabha since 1991, came from Delhi to cast his ballot at Dispur Government High School. Many of the voters stood in queues since 3 am at all the 12,699 polling stations to be among the first five when booths opened at 7 am. The district election administrations will felicitate them with medals to encourage voting.&nbsp;
Unfortunately, an 80-year-old voter was killed and three others, including two CRPF jawans, were injured in a clash between the central force and voters at Sorbhog in Barpeta district yesterday. The situation turned disruptive at Safarkamar polling station when CRPF men asked voters to stand in line properly leading to arguments and jostling.
