In the wake of West Nile fever reported in three districts of Kerala, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Thrissur, the State Health Department has issued an alert and instructed the authorities to ramp up pre-monsoon cleaning activities.


State Health Minister Veena George instructed to intensify pre-monsoon cleaning activities. The District Medical Officers have also been instructed to intensify the activities.


Most people infected with West Nile virus do not develop any symptoms. Some people may get a fever. About 1 in 5 people infected develop symptoms such as headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash. It can last for 3 to 6 days, but in severe cases, symptoms can last for weeks or months
