After a prolonged dry spell, the rain gods have decided to shower their largesse on Puneites over the last two days. The citizens as well as the PMC are hoping the rainfall continues.

"We may consider rolling back the ongoing 40 per centu00a0 water cuts if it rains for another four to five days," said Avinash Surve, the superintendent engineer, Pune irrigation circle.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, total rainfall recorded between 8.30 am to 5.30 pm yesterday stood at 24.5 mm.

"Pune needs 12,000 million cubic feet of water per year. We supply 0.04 TMC of water (40 million cubic feet) to the citizens every day.

So far, the Khadakwasla dam, which has a capacity of 1.97 TMC has only received 0.82 TMC. We need at least one TMC to fill up the dam," he pointed out.
