This paper reported on the chaos outside the Gateway of India, Colaba. The report was supported by pictures that showed the heritage precinct. We focussed on pedestrians especially who are at peril over a disaster unfolding thanks to BEST bus stops opposite the Gateway and outside the Yacht Club in the vicinity.
The buses are parked ahead of a line of cabs at the kerb adding to a very crowded situation. One footpath leading to the Gateway is encroached in patches, forcing people to walk on the road. With a cab stand on the corner, buses turn in dangerously. Cabs charge as per will during high density time, with Rs 100 being minimum fare demanded from desperate passengers, many who cave in.
