For an entire generation of Bangaloreans, used to begging bartenders for a laaaaast drink at 10.45 PM, things will take getting used to. After parties, are likely to be a thing of the past, relegated to distant memories like the tree-lined boulevard that used to exist on M G Road.u00a0 Nowhere else in the world are after parties considered as de rigeur as they are in Bangalore. Elsewhere, they go to a bar, or they go to two, and then they go home when they feel like ufffd without having to plead with bartenders or dodging police batons that beat you out of bars. Over here, one meets friends at ten, sips one drink or gulps two, before having to play inky pinky ponky to decide who gets to host the gang at home. Those dingy holes-in-the-wall like Little Rose, that the cops don't know about (wink, wink) who sell warm beer at extortionate prices after eleven pm will now be another not-so-pleasant memory relegated to sepia tone.u00a0 In which other city, do people have to park on unlit roads, and dodgily race away the moment the foaming beer is in your hands?u00a0 Empire's vast empire, built of hungry hordes being turned out of bars, and resorting to the only entertainment left ufffd namely polishing off a couple of kilos of greasy, virulently painted chicken kebabs, could now be reduced to a smaller side business. As pitcher after pitcher of draught beer come on to the table, less revelers are going to be tempted to throng towards oily kushka and grilled chicken. Bangaloreans are gonna start missing days at work. When the boss swoops down and asks them where they were, the hapless fellows will have confess that they were out till 11.45 pm the previous night. Understanding bosses will, well understand. After all, for people whose body clocks are used to going home by 11 pm, this late deadline is simply insufferable. The moral police will be up in arms.u00a0 Muthalik and his ilk are supposed to be spending sleepless nights, thinking up how to put a stop to the carousing nights of Bangalorean youth. They are drawing up charters (mistakenly) to catch all people who are enjoying Sex on the Beach as it is against Indian values to want to cohabit in public places. They insist they will protest against youngsters who carouse at places called Temptations (it's immoral and against Indian values to feel tempted), Blue (it's immoral and against Indian values to watch Blue stuff), Sports Bar (it's immoral and against Indian values to drink and play), and High Note (sigh! It's immoral and against Indian values to ufffd ummmm ufffd speak up). All in all, the later deadline is going to have mixed reactions. Me? All I'd like is a mixer right now.
