FIFA World Cup: Celebrate victories with caution, not at the cost of lives

The world is sitting on the edge of its seats as the FIFA World Cup football tourney reaches the last-eight stage. While the high-octane action is one to relish and cherish, it is time to look beyond the football field for some takeaways that serve as life lessons.

While Mexico fans were celebrating an earlier victory and fans had gathered in the streets, things got out of hand. The rush and crush of people, wild celebrations and crowds resulted in four people losing their lives. These fans died of suffocation. Though an investigation was launched after the tragedy, as with all these probes, they seem meaningless for those who have lost their loved ones. This shows us that even in triumph and joy, we must always have a heightened awareness about how we emote and act.
