There are several heartwarming takeaways here, the most obvious being remembering those who were killed during Operation Sindoor
Residents from multiple housing societies participated in the movement
Approximately 1000 trees were planted in a span of two hours recently by residents on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR), along with an outfit dedicated to wildlife conservation, which organised a plantation and cleaning drive in the Aarey forest.
The event, themed “Ek Ped Shaheed Ke Naam,” was for those who died during Operation Sindoor. Over 1000 trees were planted, and garbage was collected from three core areas. The drive involved hundreds of residents, including children and seniors.
Plants were specially selected to suit forest habitat, and the areas will be maintained by the participating societies and Aarey forest residents. The event also highlighted the importance of reducing human-animal conflicts, with residents citing a significant drop in animal attacks since regular clean-up drives began.
There are several heartwarming takeaways here, the most obvious being remembering those who were killed during Operation Sindoor. Their valour and sacrifice will live on through these greens.
That citizens were involved in the plantation proves that involvement at the ground level gives one a new perspective and makes one a participant instead of an armchair critic or even commentator. There was also an accent on cleanliness, keeping trails clean goes with greening efforts. This should be stressed upon, as one cannot have green efforts amidst rubbish and garbage.
A collective effort also illustrated unity and proved so much can be done when people come together, instead of finger pointing and altercations.
Finally, the maintenance part has also been stressed, it is not just a one-time plant and be done with it initiative. The area or spot will be tended to by locals who also must ensure that the saplings planted grow into trees. A green salute to this effort.
