While we are all for the thousands of visitors who throng the fair having more access and more buses to reach the fair, we hope there is generally an increase in buses through the year, too.

The BEST undertaking has announced extensive transport arrangements for the annual Mount Mary Fair in Bandra, which began on Sunday and is scheduled to run till next Sunday, September 21.
The Mount Mary Fair, or Bandra Fair, attracts thousands of devotees and visitors from across the city and beyond. BEST is currently operating 374 additional bus services between Bandra station and Hill Road throughout this week. In addition to these special services, there are extra buses deployed on several existing routes.
While we are all for the thousands of visitors who throng the fair having more access and more buses to reach the fair, we hope there is generally an increase in buses through the year, too.
We have seen a real dip in the numbers of the big red on our streets. Wait times at bus stops have become agonisingly long. Many buses are moving towards ‘feeder’ routes, from one transport service or hub rather than taking commuters from one destination to the next. While Mumbai’s transport scene is evolving and upgrading to absorb more crowds, the bus can still be a very important piece of our commuting. It is the service that ensures beginning to end connectivity.
This edit space has often highlighted how the bus has proved to be the city’s Mr or Ms (no gender disparity here) Reliable even in the rains when the city is flooded. Because of its size, it can and often does plough through the waters and, though slow, ensures you reach your destination eventually.
While changing bus technology is fine, we certainly need robust numbers on our roads. Travel experts today talk about their bus rides in the past and nostalgically. We think the bus still has a place on our roads and we need numbers to bolster this.
