As temperatures spike, Khar Danda Koliwada residents are reeling under a severe water crisis. It is serious enough to disrupt daily life. This paper’s report cited how residents have stated that the shortage that has shockingly persisted since last monsoon.
A local said that they rely on water tankers at times, with water supply available for barely an hour. Recently the local said that there was no water for a couple of days.
There is low pressure too when the water comes, so it is difficult for residents to fill their tanks. Another resident claimed complaints have been filed with the civic authorities but residents have got no relief. A local who has lived in Khar for years claimed that the problem has exacerbated recently.
Some efforts are being made with local civic representatives acknowledging the gravity of the crisis. BMC officials maintain that corrective steps have been taken. According to a civic official, water supply duration has been extended from the earlier 5 pm–8 pm schedule to now continue until 10 pm.
Water crunch is a top civic concern, as this has so many spin offs like a tanker mafia, bitterness and rage spilling over to altercations, illness because of cleanliness compromises.
We have often pointed out that more buildings should be green lighted only after ensuring enough water. Pipeline repairs, expansion, looking at water supply, ensuring supply meets demand, these are basics. Local representatives need to find that fix to this current problem. Water must be available daily, for enough hours and if pressure is the problem, identify, acknowledge and take action. Water you waiting for, leaders?
