It will surprise no one to learn that Mumbai’s worst roads are also the most fatal ones. This has finally been confirmed in a survey by the Mumbai Traffic Department, which has identified 30 ‘black spots’ that are in the worst condition and also witness the maximum number of deaths. According to the report, 302 lives have been claimed till July this year by this ‘holey’ menace.
This study by the traffic department’s Crash Analysis Unit (CAU) has shown that bad roads are directly connected to the number of accidents and deaths. Let the civic authorities now bring in a non-negotiable approach to tackle this vexing issue of potholes. Lampooned in publications, evoking so much ire and anger, the authorities need to take full and final responsibility and see that these potholes are filled in.
