SEZ committee should remove all hurdles

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has given directives to set up an empowered committee on Special Economic Zones (SEZ) under the chairmanship of the chief secretary for speedier completion of these projects.

Considering the present status on land acquisition for the SEZs in Maharashtra, the developments with regard to the Mumbai SEZ in Raigad district have brought to the fore the fact that the leaders from the Oppositionu00a0u00a0 are creating unnecessary hurdles in the setting up of SEZs in the state.

This committee should work on removing such roadblocks. It should also take an initiative in convening joint meetings between the developers and the opponents to overcome the problems in the establishment of these zones. Local bodies comprising developers,u00a0 political leaders and government officials should be set up.u00a0u00a0
