<p>Banishing the Monday morning commuting blues, Mumbai&rsquo;s Metro rail, the Aqua Line 3, was used by commuters during full-fledged office rush hours. &nbsp;The entire line, from Aarey Colony to Cuffe Parade, will be operational by August 2025.</p>
<p>The newly opened stretch cuts through dense residential and commercial zones such as Dharavi, Mahim and Dadar and reaches Worli.</p>
<p>Trains operated between Aarey JVLR and Acharya Atre Chowk on Saturday, though the real test was yesterday, as several office-goers wanted to experience the service even going halfway to work. Several families were seen on Sunday evening, too, experiencing the thrill of the Metro.</p>
<p>While one welcomes the additional transport arm in the city, covering a vital area, it is up to commuters to use the new facility with respect.</p>
<p>Right now, it is clean and shiny. The public must ensure that they keep it as spotless as possible. Some commuters taking the Aqua line for the first time to its extended stations did say that the service was very clean but added with a shrug and a wry laugh that it has to be seen for how long it will stay that way. This answer is tantamount to stating that we have a tendency to start something with gusto, good intentions and with orderliness but inevitably, it becomes dirty, in large part because of the people who use it carelessly.</p>
<p>Do not litter at the stations. We do not want the walls smeared with paan spit, this is unhygienic, ugly and abhorrent. People must desist from this, which, unfortunately, is a common sight at public infrastructure.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Scratching or engraving into walls or other amenities within the station is also vandalism. While fines may or may not be imposed, it is the people&rsquo;s civic sense and pride that should stop them from indulging in any kind of vandalism, including trying to push or lean into Metro access gates.
