More awareness means making every citizen a stakeholder in this survey; here, it could mean competitor or participant
NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde and Maharashtra Minister Madhuri Misal receive the award from President Droupadi Murmu.
Indore has once again emerged as India’s cleanest city, securing the top spot in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 for the eighth consecutive year, reported news agencies. The results of the Central government's annual cleanliness survey were announced in New Delhi recently. Inspirational Indore was followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai, grabbing second and third positions.
This year’s survey, the ninth edition of Swachh Survekshan, assessed over 4500 cities using a rigorous framework of 10 parameters and 54 indicators, with a focus on sanitation, waste management, and service delivery. This survey needs to have more visibility with cities/municipalities carrying banners about the survey. More awareness means making every citizen a stakeholder in this survey; here, it could mean competitor or participant.
Leaders could use social media to announce this Survey, how one's city can figure in the awardees and use Indore as an example. This cleanliness survey is a great initiative, but it needs more awareness and impact every year. This can be done through various municipal offices in Mumbai, especially where the survey is publicised. Then, one can have a component about how laypeople can become competitors themselves, helping their city climb the ranks or even figure in the survey.
This survey needs jazzing up in various ways, and if leaders can rope in an advertising agency or professional outfit, reaching more people with the message, figuring on the Swachh list will become an aspiration. Let us amp up the excitement for this Swachh Survekshan, and thinkers/leaders chart out a definite roadmap for their ‘cleanest’ city.
